Jekka McVicar launches HerbFest 2021
Jekka will be joined by a host of gardening and food experts to celebrate herbs and tells us more about Herbfest 2021.
Why did you start Herbfest?
To celebrate the growing and use of herbs and the fact that herbs taste good, look good and do you good.
You have assembled an incredible line-up – how did you decide who would feature?
The line-up is made up of friends of Jekka who she has met over the last 35 plus years. They have an equal passion for herbs whether it is growing, creating beautiful gardens, using them medicinally or cooking with herbs.
There is a new excitement about herbs, why?
Even before COVID and lockdowns, there was an increasing awareness in the importance of growing your own and nurturing the environment. Herbs allow you to do this on a kitchen window sill or in a garden; they provide both flavour to a meal and attract pollinators, birds and wildlife to your garden.
Do you think herbs have a role in healthy ageing?
Definitely, but even more, they have a role in healthy living. The famous quote, attributed to Hippocrates, 'Let food be thy medicine, and let medicine be thy food’ further enforces their importance as food for our health and well-being.
